Senate Finance Committee Chair Changing Hands – WOTC Still a Priority

On February 6, 2014, the Senate bid farewell to Senator Max Baucus (D-MT), former Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, after confirmation of his appointment as Ambassador to China. It is expected that this will mark the start of Senator Ron Wyden’s (D-OR) term as Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.

In a meeting sponsored by the National Employment Opportunity Network (NEON) several weeks ago, expected incoming Senate Nursery_EmployeeFinance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (D-OR) expressed his support for several key legislative measures. Some of those referenced measures included tax extenders, which include several tax credit hiring incentives, such as the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC), Indian Employment Tax Credits (IETC), and Enterprise Zones (EZs).

Senator Wyden reiterated his intention on February 6, 2014 to quickly address the sixty or so tax provisions that expired at the end of 2013. While Senator Wyden has not publicly announced a schedule for their consideration, Senate Finance Committee staff has been advised that the Committee may address the tax extenders at the end of February or the first week of March.

We will continue to monitor legislative developments associated with WOTC and other tax credits and issue further communications as more pertinent information becomes available to us.
