[Infographic] Beware of the Compliance Gap

Anyone who’s ever watched a Road Runner cartoon has likely seen Wile E. Coyote’s uncanny ability to run full-bore over the edge of a cliff and remain airborne until he notices he’s standing on thin air.

The same way that Mr. Coyote has a seemingly unending number of deceptive plans for catching the elusive Road Runner, most companies also have a number of separate systems in place to handle a range of human capital management (HCM) processes, such as paying employees, managing their time and administering their benefits. But with today’s complex and ever-changing regulations, HCM-related compliance requirements are increasingly becoming a major issue – and one that can’t be solved with a solution that doesn’t keep pace. The divide between the capabilities of an organization’s HCM system and the complex, manual tasks required to comply with HCM-related laws is something ADP calls the Compliance Gap.

Companies can fall into their own Compliance Gap if they rely on disparate systems or manual processes to manage their HCM-related compliance. Unless they possess Wile E. Coyote’s unique gravity-defying abilities, once organizations realize they’ve fallen into a Compliance Gap, they may already be well on their way to incurring costly fines and penalties (and becoming a cloud of dust on the canyon floor below).
