Government Shutdown – WOTC Still Working

US Capitol across waterAs we enter day-two of the government shutdown, our teams who support the ADP SmartComplianceSM tax credits module are receiving questions around  the impact of the shutdown on the Work Opportunity Tax Credits (WOTC) program. It is important to note that it is business as usual with regard to WOTC processing.

Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) Processing

The U.S. Postal Service is exempt from furloughs and currently functioning normally without interruption. In light of this, we will continue to process IRS Forms 8850 and obtain the certificate of mailing documentation from the U.S. Postal Service, which is necessary to verify timeliness of filing with state agencies.

Additionally, ADP conducted a survey of state processing centers and found that all states will continue to accept, process and issue WOTC certifications as usual. As a result, the federal government shutdown should have NO IMPACT on the WOTC program at this time.
