Employers Have More Time to Take Advantage of WOTC on 2014 Eligible Hires

Companies that hired employees eligible for the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) in 2014 now have more time to file the necessary forms to Hiredbenefit from WOTC.

On February 19, 2015, the IRS issued Notice N-2015-13, which provides guidance on the implementation of section 119 of the Tax Increase Prevention Act of 2014, enacted December 19, 2014, extending the Work Opportunity Tax Credit through December 31, 2014. The notice provides employers with transition relief similar to relief provided in previous years for completing and submitting the Pre-Screening Form IRS 8850 for individuals hired after December 31, 2013 and before January 1, 2015.

Under the new IRS guidance, employers that hired members of targeted groups under WOTC, including qualified veterans, on or after January 1, 2014 and before January 1, 2015 (i.e. hires during the 2014 hiatus), will be considered to have satisfied the completion and submission requirements for IRS Form 8850 if the completed form is submitted to the appropriate state agency no later than April 30, 2015.
