This summer, the California Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz)  announced1 three online application periods for the fiscal year 2015-2016 California Competes Tax Credit.  The second of the three application periods will start on January 4, 2016 and remain open through January 25, 2016. Up to $75 million in credits may be awarded to applicants during this upcoming application period.

The third and final application period for fiscal year 2015-2016 credits will be open from March 7, 2016 through March 28, 2016. GO-Biz will award up to $50.9 million plus any remaining unallocated amounts from the previous application periods.

The California Competes Tax Credit is a competitively-awarded tax credit which is negotiated between GO-Biz and the applicant employers.  The credit awards are approved by the California Competes Tax Credit Committee, which consists of the State Treasurer, the Director of the Department of Finance, a delegate from GO-Biz, an appointee by the Speaker of the Assembly and an appointee by the Senate Committee on Rules.
